What Are JEE Main and JEE Avanced’s Differences?
Differences Between JEE Main and JEE Advanced
The key difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced is that JEE Main serves as a prerequisite for JEE Advanced. To be eligible for JEE Advanced, candidates must first pass JEE Main and meet the required All India Rankings cut-off.
JEE Main
JEE Main is a critical engineering entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is designed to assess candidates’ understanding and skills in key subjects. The exam consists of:
- Paper I: For B.Tech admissions. This paper includes 20 objective questions and 5 numerical questions each from Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- Paper II: For B.Arch and B.Planning admissions. This paper features 77 questions in Mathematics and 100 questions in Aptitude.
JEE Main is conducted twice a year, allowing candidates multiple opportunities to take the exam. It is accepted by numerous engineering colleges across India, including National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other prestigious institutions.
JEE Advanced
JEE Advanced is conducted by one of the IITs and is specifically for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The exam is more challenging and consists of:
- Paper 1 and Paper 2: Each paper is three hours long. Both papers must be attempted to qualify for JEE Advanced.
Candidates must have completed Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class XII (or an equivalent exam) to be eligible for JEE Advanced. Registration for JEE Advanced is done online, and detailed instructions are provided on the official registration website. The exam is conducted once a year, typically after JEE Main results are announced.
