STEAM Course Overview
STEM is an acronym for SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING and MATH. When you add the “ARTS”, it becomes STEAM. The demand of STEAM qualified workforce has sky-rocketed in the past few years. Employers from various sectors are seeking future-ready individuals who are able to showcase 21st century skills integrated through the Arts in their STEAM jobs. Some of the skills to be highlighted here are: creativity, innovation, problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, collaboration, flexibility, adaptability, social and cross cultural skills.
Many schools, colleges and institutes have started to provide hands-on learning opportunities in maker-space environments to promote STEAM as an extra curricular activity. The ARTS in STEAM helps the students to create, design and develop their ideas into prototypes for better understanding and visualization. The advocates of STEAM, point towards the unlimited innovative ideas and fearless creative thinking that arises from a strong foundation of knowledge that is set at an early age.

STEM vs STEAM:
Although STEM is still a widespread acronym in the educational industry focusing on STEM curriculum, STEM extra-curricular activities, STEM projects, etc. The amalgamation of ARTS has become a need of the real-world. Practical applications of STEAM are being demonstrated by educators from around the world to help students in becoming better problem-solvers, innovators, inventors, self-reliant and logical thinkers. The students who are engaged in STEAM activities from an early age, grow up to become Scientists, Engineers, Designers, Developers, etc. A good example is of designer and artist “Leah Heiss”,who works in the field of nanotechnology to create and design jewellery for diabetics in order to assist them in administering their insulin.
